How to Use List Sections
Video tutorial
Why use “List Sections”?
Sections are a way to add more organization to your lists. You might find that adding sections is helpful for:
Preparing readings
Organizing a list with many citations, such as on a topic you’ve researched
Preparing a citation list for an Association address
How do they work?
Citations text, and annotations can be placed inside a section
Any citations or text items in a section will be indented
Like citations and comments, sections can be expanded, collapsed, and moved with the 9-dot icon
When you drag a section, all items placed in it will be moved along with it
If you use the Next/Previous buttons to move into a collapsed section, the section will be expanded
Each list can have a maximum 50 sections
How do I create a section?
After opening a list, the option to add a section will appear at the bottom of the List panel
Note: The Import button has moved to the List Options hamburger menu. Please see the article on importing citations for more information.
To create a new section in your list, click the Add Section button. This will create a new section at the top of your list
A section must have a name for it to be saved. You can also add an optional summary for describing your section
If you don’t want to save your section, click the “Cancel” button
After creating your section, placeholder text will say “empty section” until you add an item to it
If you want to change your section’s name or description, click the section’s 3-dot menu, then click “Edit”

Is there anything else I should know?
Citation numbering with sections
The following applies to numbering By Book and Sequential numbering

With sections, there are more options for numbering your citations.
To enable citation numbering, double-click or tap your list’s name, then click the toggle for “Citation Numbering”
Once citation numbering is enabled, you can choose to number your citations by section, or the entire list
By Section will number citations in a section, then reset the numbering at the start of a different section. Any citations outside of a section will have their own numbering, regardless of whether they are above, beneath, or in between sections
Full List will number all citations across the entire list, regardless of whether or not they are in sections
Arranging and sorting a list with sections by book
