Search Concord - Specific Range Searches for Books, Chapters, and Pages

What is Range Search? 

This feature allows you to limit search results to specific books, chapters, verses and/or pages. For example, you can search for instances in which the word "light" appears in the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science Hymnal. Similarly, you could look for instances in which the word "joy" appears in Mary Baker Eddy's Miscellaneous Writings and chapters 1-5 of the book of John in the Bible.

Range search can help save you having to scroll through many results before you get to the results that interest you.

Conducting a Range Search in the New Search Options Menu

To conduct a range search in Concord:

1. Enter the word(s) you would like to search for in the search bar. 

2. Click (or Tap for iPhone/mobile) on the words "Search Options" just below the search bar. This will open the new Search Options menu. 

3. Click or tap on the gray button across from the words "Range." You will know range search has been activated once the gray button has turned blue and the word "Range" appears in a blue box under the search bar. 

4. Two gray boxes will appear directly below the words Range Search.

   1. In the lefthand box, enter the full name or abbreviation for the book you would like to limit your search results to. (A full list of Bible book abbreviations can be found here and a list of abbreviations for Mary Baker Eddy’s books, here.)

   2. If you would like to further limit your results to certain chapters, verses, or pages within the selected book, enter that information into the righthand box.

   3. To add additional books, click the "Add Another Book" button below the gray boxes and repeat steps a and b above. 

5. Click or tap on the magnifying glass next to the search bar to conduct the search. 

6. To disable range search, open the Search Options menu and click or tap on the blue toggle, to turn it back to gray. 

7. To remove all activated search options at once, click or tap on the blue “Reset” button in the bottom right-hand corner of the Search Options menu. 

8. To remove all activated search options at once and simultaneously clear the words in the search bar, click or tap on the X located on the right-hand side of the search bar. 

Examples:

• Add boxes for each of Matt, Mark, Luke, John to find results only in the Gospels.

• Show only New Testament results by typing NT into the first gray box (or, “OT” for Old Testament). 

• Restrict results to pages 465–497 of Science and Health by putting SH in the first gray box and 465–497 in the second gray box.

• Search MBE’s published sermons only by putting each title in a new box(such as Pan, Hea, etc.)
