This article will describe how to navigate hymns in the Books tab under the Study Tools Panel.

Written Instructions: 

  1. Go to Books tab under the Study Tools panel


From here you have several browsing options:

To browse by Front Matter:

  1. Click on Hymnal
  2. Click on Front Matter
  3. Click on either 1932 Preface and 2017 Preface 

Note: to collapse any option that reveals a drop-down list, click that option. For example: to collapse the “Front Matter” drop-down list to hide 1932 and 2017 Prefaces, simply click “Front Matter.” 


To browse by Number index:

  1. Click on Hymnal.
  2. Click on Number Index. Hymnal numbers will appear, grouped by 100's. 
  3. Select the correct number range by clicking on it. A drop-down list of all hymns in that number range will appear.
  4. Click on your desired hymn. The hymn will appear in the Books Panel. 


To browse by First Lines:

  1. Click on Hymnal.
  2. Click on First Lines. The alphabet will appear.
  3. Choose the letter which begins the first word of the first line of the hymn you would like to read. 
  4. Scroll to the correct first line.
  5. Click on the first line of the hymn to display it in the Books Panel. 



To browse by Author/Word Sources:

  1. Click on Hymnal.
  2. Click on Authors/Word Sources. Author names will appear in alphabetical order by last name. 
  3. Click on the author name you wish to view. The title of their hymn(s) will appear under their name, accompanied by the hymn number(s). 
  4. Click on the hymn you wish to view. The hymn will appear in the Books panel.



To browse by Composer/Music Sources:

  1. Click on Hymnal.
  2. Click on Composer/Music Sources. The alphabet will appear. 
  3. Click on the letter that the composer's last name starts with. 
  4. Click on the composer you wish to view. The title of their tune(s) will appear below their name, accompanied by the hymn number.
  5. Click on the hymn/tune you wish to view. The hymn will appear in the Books panel. The tune and composer's name can be viewed at the bottom of the hymn, as shown in the image below:


To browse by Tune:

  1. Click on Hymnal.
  2. Click on Tunes. The alphabet will appear. 
  3. Click on the letter that the tune starts with. Tunes will appear in alphabetical order, followed by the hymn number. 
  4. Click on the tune you would like to view. The hymn will appear in the Books panel. You can see the tune name towards the bottom of the hymn as shown below:
